Seattle Design Festival
Title: Level Up
Location: Lake Union Park
Date: Summer 2019
The Challenge: “The Seattle Design Festival will feature citywide tours, exhibits, outdoor installations, activities, interactive workshops, and more. This year’s Festival theme, Balance, asks: What is the role of design to mitigate our impact on the planet and achieve greater natural balance? How can design thinking foster a society that balances the needs of all of its people and the planet? Can design help us achieve personal balance and live our best lives?” - Seattle Design Festival
Our Solution: “Level Up” is an interactive exhibit suitable for all ages to highlight everyday choices and their contribution to sustainability and our environment. Naturally, a super-sized “level” with pulleys and weights was the solution.
Materials: Cardboard, Wood, Paint, Cord, Reused toys, hooks, pulleys, and equipment (from Ballard Reuse), Canvas bags
My role: Worked with a small team to develop the overall concept, engineer the waste-sorting activity “When in Doubt Throw it out”, purchase materials, paint graphics, final install, and volunteer at the installation during the festival
